H.E. Dr. Tarek Mitri is the director of the Issam Fares Institute on Public Policy and International Affairs at the American University of Beirut (AUB). From 2012 to 2014, he was the special representative of the United Nations secretary-general for Libya. Between 2005 and 2011, he served in four successive Lebanese governments as minister of environment, administrative reform, culture, and information, as well as acting minister of foreign affairs. Previously, he worked in various capacities in the area of intercultural and inter-religious dialogue and taught in multiple universities. He holds a PhD in political science from the University of Paris X.
