Dr. Rima Afifi
Dr. Rima Afifi is a professor in the Department of Community and Behavioral Health at the College of Public Health of the University of Iowa. Prior to that, she was a professor in the Department of Health Promotion & Community Health and an associate dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at the American University of Beirut (AUB). Rima’s research and practice fall into four broad categories: youth well-being, protective factors among youth, tobacco control, and intervention evaluation. She advocates for a focus on the social and structural determinants of well-being to promote inclusion, equity, and justice. She has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications and has engaged in extensive professional practice in the Arab region. She holds a PhD from St. Louis University, a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina, and a BS in Psychology from the University of Iowa.
