Simplify the process of depositing checks using ATMs
Have a customer service representative strategically located near the queue or have bank tellers prompt clients who come to the bank branch to deposit their checks to use the ATM to deposit their checks instead. The customer service representative can then hand the client an informative card which includes a set of easy-to-follow instructions on how to deposit their check using the ATM or accompany the client to the ATM in order to walk them through the process.
Behavioral Tools: Prompt, Hassle Simplification
Benchmarked Intervention
Experiment Overview
In the USA, an intervention was conducted to encourage Alliant Credit Union members who deposit most of their checks at their local branch or through the mail to try mobile deposits. A behaviorally informed and personalized letter was sent to 3000 randomly selected members. The letter included a set of easy-to-follow instructions for making a deposit using the smartphone app, a $5 check to encourage people to try and make a deposit immediately, and information on the number of people currently using mobile deposits.
