Share stories of women who were subjected to domestic violence and took action by reporting it.

Behavioral Tools: Social Norms, Salience

Benchmarked Intervention

Experiment Overview

A randomized control trial (RCT) was conducted in Uganda on 112 rural villages to reduce violence against women through using anti-violence against women videos. The videos depicted a husband physically abusing his wife, and appealed to the audience to speak out against violence to prevent it from escalating. The intervention attracted over 10,000 adults upon which 6,449 individuals were surveyed 2 and 8 month after the videos.

Impact

Women in the villages where the videos were screened were 18% less likely to believe that they would face social sanctions from reporting violence against women.
